BEM - Bug Eyed Monster

This is a fairly common slang term seen in Science-Fiction books and movies, referring to a generic space alien.

It became popular back in the 1950s with the surge of Science-Fiction movies which depicted aliens as having very large eyes.

This acronym is not uses in any official context in any space agency. Though it may often be seen used as an joke amongst Science-Fiction fans.
